The Trossachs is a lovely area to the North of Stirling. The Highland Boundary Fault Line runs through it, so much of it is officially Scottish Highlands. There's something about the atmosphere which I find compelling and hard to describe. It's the mist rolling off the hills and bens, the gurgling water of the lochs, the shiny pebbles and muted colours. There was some snow on the hills and we had the usual three seasons in a day, so typical of Scottish weather. And Catherine and Lewis chose all of this for their wedding day, an absolutely perfect choice. They met in Aberdeen where they live and raise their son Alexander; Lewis' parents are from Balquhidder and they were celebrating their wedding anniversary on the same day. I love this nod towards the importance of family. And the day was all about family. It was a smaller celebration, with a lot of children - who had an absolute ball, playing in these surroundings! The choice of Monachyle Mhor hotel also just fitted in every way. The luxury hotel is classy without being stuffy; atmospheric without being pretentious. It's homely, authentic and I would shoot there every weekend :) Loved all the quirky details and the scenery is simply to die for.
My day started with Catherine and the girls, who got ready in Monachyle Mhor while it was raining outside. As I arrived at stunning Balquhidder Parish Church, the sun came out in full strength messing with my camera settings - but who would complain! :) We stopped at Loch Voil on the way back to Monachyle Mhor for some photos of Catherine and Lewis in the perfect scenery - Catherine sporting some fabulous (and very practical!) pink wellies! Back at the hotel, guests were enjoying some drinks and the dry weather, until they were called in for the wedding breakfast. A lovely relaxed wedding, really enjoyed everything about this.
